Amateur sailor leaves £500,000 to RNLI

An amateur sailor has left £500,000 to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), the charity has confirmed.
Peter George Fox, a retired mechanical engineer who died, aged 76, in February, was an active member of the sailing community near his home in Truro, Cornwall. He had bowel cancer.It is understood Mr Fox had no close family members and so chose to bequeath the bulk of his estate to the RNLI.An RNLI spokeswoman said yesterday: "Six out of 10 lifeboat launches are thanks to legacies, similar to the one Mr Fox made."The work of our lifeboat crews relies entirely upon the generosity of kind supporters."Legacy gifts are a vital source of income to the RNLI and we are grateful for any donations."Mr Fox was a member of the Island Cruising Club, Salcombe, and later the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club.A volunteer at Trelissick Gardens, near Truro, he also left money to the National Trust.
